Program - 7:30pm - 9:30pm

A presentation and discussion with CEO and founder of DK-Technologies, Karsten Hansen.

DK Technologies have recently introduced the DKT7 Surround metering, compliance, and logging system. Karsten Hansen will present an in-depth look at the system, including the patented “Starfish” tool, explaining the philosophy behind the design and how to interpret the indication of the Starfish. He will demonstrate how the Starfish detects errors in the audio and makes sure that the surround sound signal is legal for downmix.

He will explain the differences between current metering and the ITU1770 RMS Detector, expressly how it relates to existing metering such as:

  • The European PPM’s
  • The SONY DMU1630
  • The VU
  • The ITU RMS

Karsten will also help us understand the terms Momentary, Short (Sliding) and Integrating as they relate to audio metering including such issues as power calculation - the importance of the observation time, gating, reclaim factor, loudness range.

Do you know the difference between Digital Peak and Digital True Peak? Is it important at all? We will find out what can be expected with real audio signals.

The talk will conclude with a discussion on Surround Work-flow in post production.
